Thomas Friedman : "Calling All Pakistanis"

Thomas Friedman writes in the NY Times "Calling All Pakistanis".

On the terrorist attack in Mumbai and the usual explanations about terrorists : he writes "....The best defense against this kind of murderous violence is to limit the pool of recruits, and the only way to do that is for the home society to isolate, condemn and denounce publicly and repeatedly the murderers — and not amplify, ignore, glorify, justify or “explain” their activities. ".

I solely appreciate/respect above comments from the author. But above comments never applies to US itself when it comes to any attack on US, they have all the OPTIONS open,Not just a BILATERAL TALK.

Well, yes, it would seem so. USA reserves the right to take pre-emptive action -- meaning any kind of action -- and also post-facto military action.
The "either you are with us or you are against us" attitude isn't very mature.
